Anja Demić is a Belgrade-based artist trained at the Faculty of Applied Arts, whose practice moves between painting, relief, object and space. In her Belgrade Skin series, the city enters the work through surface, material and traces of touch, while rock, with its mass, layering and erosion, remains one of the key references in her visual language.For Anja, material is an active working tool. Her hand-built surfaces shift with light and viewpoint, allowing the reliefs to enter into a natural dialogue with interiors. Existing works can be selected in response to the proportions, materials and atmosphere of an interior, or developed specifically for a space, from private residences to hotels, restaurants and workspaces.
